Privacy & Data Handling

Your privacy is important to us. Here's how we handle your data in this beta version.

Local-First Storage

All your data is stored locally on your device

In this beta version, MyYearReview uses IndexedDB, a browser-based database, to store all your review data locally on your device. This means:

  • Your data never leaves your device
  • No accounts or login required (account-based sync planned for future releases)
  • No cloud storage or servers involved
  • Your data persists even after closing the browser
  • Each device has its own separate data storage

Export Your Data

You can export your data at any time

You have full control over your data. You can export your review in multiple formats:

  • JSON - Complete data in structured format
  • Text - Human-readable format
  • PDF - Formatted brief (Annual Debrief flow only)

Export options are available from the year brief page after completing your review.

Deleting Your Data

You can delete your data at any time

Since all data is stored locally on your device, you have complete control:

  • Delete individual reviews from the home page
  • Clear all browser data to remove everything
  • Use browser settings to clear IndexedDB storage

Note: Once deleted, data cannot be recovered. Make sure to export your data first if you want to keep a backup.

No Tracking or Analytics

We don't track your usage or collect analytics

MyYearReview does not use any tracking, analytics, or third-party services that collect your data. We don't know what you write, how long you spend on each step, or any other usage information.

Browser Storage Limits

Understanding storage capacity

IndexedDB storage limits vary by browser and device, but typically range from 50MB to several GB. For most users, this is more than enough to store multiple years of reviews. If you approach the limit, you'll see a browser warning, and you can export and delete older reviews to free up space.

Future Features

Planned enhancements

We're planning to add account-based sync and cloud storage in future releases. When available, these features will be:

  • Completely optional (opt-in only)
  • End-to-end encrypted
  • Clearly explained before enabling
  • Easy to disable at any time

Note: The current beta version uses local storage only. Your data will remain on your device until you choose to enable cloud sync in a future release.
